The Quandra Prettymen Prize in Africana Studies is awarded to a senior Africana Studies Major or Minor who has been nominated by the Africana Studies Department Faculty. The prize is awarded to a student who exemplifies a scholarly commitment to the study of the field. It honors Professor Quandra Prettyman who embodies what we faculty strive to cultivate in our students—intellectual curiosity, generosity of spirit, constant growth, and a belief in the generative power of community. Our hope is that recipients of this prize remain true to these commitments to herself and to her community, as Professor Prettyman has throughout her lifetime.
The prize comes with an award of $500.
