The Black Madonna and the Legacy of Costa Rica's Afro-descendants
Dr. Gordon-Chipembere was born in New York, and she is of Afro-Costa Rican and Panamanian parentage. She graduated from Vassar College (BA in English). She earned an MA in Education at Teachers College, Columbia University and another MA in African Literature at the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) in South Africa. She received her PhD in English at the University of South Africa (UNISA) in Pretoria. She has taught in colleges in the U.S. and Costa Rica, and she is currently based in Costa Rica. She has published in a number of journals, and she is a senior co-editor of the AfroLatin@ Diasporas Book Series (Palgrave: https://www.
